The Wairarapa Lawn Tennis Association’s open championships and handicaps meeting commenced -on the Masterton Club’s courts today 111 line weather. Melody (Wellington) will ensure a high standard in the women’s singles. . . In the championship singles fatedman easily defeated IC. Groves in the first match, li—3, 6—3- S. F. Wheeler (Wellington) lost to B. P. Welch (Masterton). 6—2. B—3. W. J. Melody defeated It. Wardell, 6 —4, 6 —l. WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP Singles Mrs. 13. Wells (Gisborne) defeated Miss Hods (Auckland), 6—3, G—4.
