PAPATOETOE TOWN BOARD

A suggestion was received from the Papatoetoe Welfare League, at last evening’s meeting of the Papatoetoe Town .Board, that the name of the new park be Wallace Park. The clerk was instructed to advise the league that the park had been opened as the Papatoetoe Park, and the board could not make any change. A further request that the footpath in AVallace Road, from Station Road to the park entrance, be formed, was deferred, pending the drawing up of next year’s estimates. The question of providing drinking fountains at the recreation ground and park was referred to the parks committee. In view of there being no bus stops allocated in Station Road West, the Passenger Transport Company asked permission to .erect bus stop signs, and submitted a list of proposed stops. The question was referred to the traffic inspector. The Council of the Auckland Automobile Association made further representation to the board, urging the advisability of the removal of traffic domes in the town district. It was agreed that a conference be arranged between the traffic inspector and representatives of the Auckland Automobile Association, to further consider the question. Messrs. AV. J. Nicholson, J. Franklin and J. Bryant were appointed delegates to attend the meeting to be held on February 13. to consider the question of regional town planning. The clerk reported that the general account was in credit £32 Is 2d. On the recommendation of the hall committee it was agreed to combine with the Manukau County Council to carry out renovations to the public hall, at an estimated cost of £IOO.
