PEACHES CHEAPER NEW BANANA SHIPMENT Larqcr quantities of oeaches are coming forward on the city markets, and present sales show a decline in values. A slight decline was evident today in banana prices owing to the shipment of 9,000 cases, brought from the Blands by the ToDua. Most of these e selling ex wharf up to 235. Shipments of bananas will increase in size steadily from now on: consignments from Fiji are already larger. A good quantity of the Tofua’s fruit i s ripe, and ready for sale. Whether there will be a distribution of the shipment through the province will depend on the condition of the fruit which reached Wellington by the Maui Pomare. Good, large, coloured apples arc selling fairly well, but all lines of plums have declined. There is no demand for small Burbanks. Inferior grades of tomatoes are slow of sale. Strawberries are much poorer in quality, and decreases in price are reported. Hothouse grapes are well sought, and a few choice lines are bringing up to 2s a lb.
