GAME WITH MANAWATU WOOLLEY PLAYS WELL Press Association PALMERSTON N., Sunday. The M.C.C. team defeated Mariavatu by an innings and i7S runs. Th« M.C.C. made 47S runs in its ’ fi rst innings and Munawatn made 67 arid i 33 (Pacey 47) in its first and second innings respectively. When play was resumed yesterday the M.C.C. score was 30G runs for seven wickets. The sun was shining brightly after rain showers overnight and the wicket was in good order. Woolley (55) and Dawson (12) continued to bat brightly, the former being particularly agl gressive. Getting several sixes, ho reached his century after 90 minutes. Then he had a lucky “life” through a fieldsman misjudging a ball. the fourth century came after 23S minutes' play. Woolley again had a “life,’* a chance of stumping him not being taken. The partnership was broken immediately afterward, a smart return seeing Dawson run out. He made 46 out of the 159 added for the eighth wicket. Legg© followed, and the total was advanced to 41S, when Cutler cleanbowled Woolley. He had made 125 in 117 minutes, and hit eight fours and five sixes. Gilligan was the last man in. Legge was dropped in the slips. The scoring was hurried along, and at luncheon the total was 47G for nine wickets. After the adjournment the M.C.C, innings lasted only a few minutes. Gilligan and Legge each scored a single off Gallichan before Legge was caught by Spring, off Gallichan. Manawatu then played their second innings.
