CRUELTY TO A HORSE
FINE OF £5 IMPOSED From Our Own Correspondent. TAUMARUNUI, Saturday. A case of cruelty to a horse was dealt with at the Police Court this morning, the presiding jListices being Messrs. A. S. Laird and W. A. N. Campbell. The defendant was William Nvaylor, who was charged with causing unnecessary suffering to a chestnut mare. Sergeant Dunford said that as a result of information he and Constable Parker had inspected the horse, which had a large sore on both withers and a large sore on the loin. Three weeks ago the accused had ridden the animal for about a week. The sores had not been attended to and he had never seen an animal in a worse condition. Gerald Miller, stock inspector, gave evidence in which he said he had examined the horse and found large sores on the withers, loin and girth. The horse was in great pain. Accused was fined £5, in default 14 days. The Bench advised him to attend to the horse without delay, otherwise he would be brought before the court again and a more severe penalty imposed.
