PRESENTATIONS SUCCESSFUL SPORTSMEN ON SATURDAY RAGLAN’S M.P. OFFICIATES “The generosity of the good •ports people of this district makes it possible each year for patrons of the Ngaruawahia Racing Club to enjoy a splendid and interesting outing," said Mr. W. Lee Martin, M.P., in making the presentation of the cup on Saturday. The member for Raglan, after expressing appreciation of the honour conferred upon him by the president of the club, alluded to the good fortuna experienced in having such a beautiful day for the fixture. He complimented the executive on the excellent sport provided annually and paid a tribute to the sporting spirit of the people of the district who supported the club and by their generosity made it possible to hold such a pleasing function. The speaker eulogised the fine sportsmanship of the Taupiri residents, who had donated the handsome solid silver cup, and wh.,ch he handed, amid applause, to Mr R. McMiken, owner of the successful candidate, Always. Mr. Lee Martin referred to the recipient as a “real sport,” who deserved the success achieved He understood Mr. McMiken was shortly leaving on a tour round the world, and he took the opportunity of wishing him “bon voyage .”
Replying on behalf of the owner of Always, Mr. F. E. Lark said Mr. McMiicen was naturally gratified at the success of his horse. He had been making an attempt for three years to win a race of this description and s * ve * S°°d measure of the credit of the win to jockey H. Gilmer. Cheers for owner, jockey, horse, donor of the up and Mr. Lee Martin were then given. His First Victory After apprentice rider F.
