TRADE SLUMP
AUSTRALIA ALARMED AT REDUCED EXPORTS FAILED TO ADVERTISE United 2\ J. —By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 12.45 p.m." SYDNEY, Today. From the year 1924-25 to 1925-29. the exports of produce and merchandise from Australia fell from £159,987,124, to £140,942,670. This serious decline is not only with overseas countries, but with the Dominions, and has resulted in the Minister of Markets, Mr. P. J. Moloney, asking Cabinet to establish a commercial intelligence service abroad. Officials attribute the present adverse trade balance to the fact that Australia neglected to advertise extensively overseas between 1926 and 1925. The export trade to New Zealand fell from £5,059,779 to £3,565,251, while Canada’s exports to New Zealand correspondingly increased.
