Sir George Elliot arrived by the Limited today. The Hon. J- B. Donald, Minister of Industries, arrived today. Bishop Brodie, of Christchurch, and Bishop Whyte, of Dunedin, left for the South last evening. The Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, Minister of Health, arrived in Auckland today by the Limited express. Mr. H. C. Jones, president of the North Island Motor Union, left by the Marama for Sydney yesterday. The Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, Leader of the Opposition, who has been spendinga few days in Auckland, returned to Dargaville yesterday. Mr. T. E. Mullins, formerly of the staff of the Chief Post Office, Wanganui, has retired from the service and taken up his residence in Auckland. Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Emmanuel Hoyle, 0.8. E., a well-known English woollen manufacturer, will arrive in New Zealand by the Rangitane, due at Wellington at the end of next week. The Secretary to the Treasury, Mr. A. D. Park, has been appointed chairman of the Local Government Loans Board, In succession to Mr. R. E. Hayes, who has retired from that position. The Hon. W. B. Taverner, Minister of Railways, accompanied by Mr. H. H. Sterling, general manager of the Railways Department, left for the North this morning by the Whangarei ooepress. Mr. W. B. Dal lard, Comptroller of Prisons, and Mr. P. D. N. Vershaffelt, 'Public Service Commissioner, were passengers from Wellington to Taurmarunui by the Limited express this morning. Dr. L. Cockayne, C.M.G., F.R.S., has been invited to be one of the vicepresidents of the International Botanical Congress, to be held at Cambridge, England, in August. Delegates will attend from every country in the world. Major-General Sir Thomas Yarr, K.C.M.G., C. 8.„ is a passenger by the Rangitane, which is due to arrive at Wellington next Saturday. Sir Thomas served in the Great War, and from 1919 until 1921 was Inspector-General of Medical Services at the War Office. The appointment is gazetted of Mr. J. R. Robertson, chief schedule officer, chief mechanical engineer’s office, as Departmental representative on the Government Railways Appeal Board, vie© Mr. P. Lindsay, who has resigned.
