GOOD CREEPERS
GARDENS CAN BE IMPROVED BY CREEPERS It is surprising the number ot places about a suburban home than can be made to look more attractive by the judicious use of climbing plants. First of all, the whole appearance ot the place can be altered and made attractive by erecting an arch above the entrance gate in the form known as a. “pagoda,” and growing over it » couple of ever-blooming roses. Next to the rose there is nothing so attractive as the bougainvillias, of which of recent years several fine varieties have appeared. The old purple one is a strong and rapidgrowing climber which will attain to a great size, and is particularly beautiful v,-hen climbing over the wall of one of the old houses, such as were built toward the end ot the last century. A cottage wall does not give sufficient loom. The best of the newer ones is Bougainvillia magnifica Trailli. The flowers, of a brilliant red, are produced in great profusion for the gieater part of the year. Being sunloving plants, they will not grow where they receive much shade. A north wall c-uits them admirably. The ever-popular wistaria needs a lot of beating when covered in flower in the springtime, and as a coverer it has no equal. In addition to the common lavender variety, other shades, such, as white and purple, may be obtained. Bignonias are wonderful climbiug plants, flowering for the greater part of the year. The colours are various, being red, mauve and yellow, and many other shades. The plants like sunlight, and having clinging tendrils attach themselves readily to fences, walls, etc. The clematis are another choice lot ot climbing plants, and our native vine, with its white flowers is one of the most beautiful.
