ROXY AND EMPRESS
“MOTHER’S BOY” The splendid double-feature programme now being shown at both the Roxy and Empress (Newton) Theatres is headed by “Mother’s Boy,” a delightful talkie and singing production, in which Morton Downey plays the leading role. Downey, who is described as “New York’s golden-voiced tenor,” is heard to advantage in several new and attractive vocal numbers. Beryl Mercer, who appeared with outstanding success in a difficult character role in “Three Live Ghosts,” supports Downey. The second feature will be “Square Shoulders,” a P.D.C. production, starring Junior Coglan and Louis Wolheim. It is a part-talking and sound synchronised film dealing with life in a great military college. Several fine supporting shorter talkies of diverse interests will be included in the programme.
