SWIMMING TEAM
AUCKLANDERS LEAVING TOMORROW GOOD REPRESENTATION Auckland’s swimming representatives who will compete at the New Zealand championships at Greymouth from January 24 will leave for the South tomorrow evening by the second express Lor Wellington. Mr. H. Moore, secretary of the Auckland Swimming Centre, is the manager of the team, which undoubtedly is the strongest being sent by any centre to the championships. The personnel is:
Men. —Gordon Bridson (Grammar), 100yds, 220yds, 440yds, 880yds, one mile; Barry Young (Ponsonby), diving. Women.—Miss Marie Farquhar (Waitemata) and Miss Pegyg Robertson (Parnell), 100yds, 220yds, 440yds; Miss Gladys Pidgeon (Waitemata), and Miss Jean Thomson (Parnell), breast-stroke. .
Intermediate Boys.—R. Thomas (Grammar), 100yds, 220yds, 440yds; J. Magee (Parnell), 100yds breast-stroke. Intermediate Girls.—Miss Sybil Brown (Mount Eden), and Miss Marjorie Smith (Mount Eden), 100yds, 220yds; Miss Joan Webster (Mount Eden), 75yds. breast-stroke. Juniors.—Boys: Noel Crump (North Shore), 100yds, 220yds, Girls: Miss E. Rainey (North Shore), and Miss E. Strong (Helensville), 50yds, 100yds.
Auckland-% holds the Yaldhurst Shield for seniors, and also the Junior Challenge Shield. The principal competition this year will be from Miss Kathleen Miller (Wellington) and Miss Natalie Stratton (Wanganui), in the women’s events; A. T. Stokes (Canterbury), in men’s distance swimming; and Roy Ca.lder (Otago), diving. On Lake Brunner, in Westland, the distance swim for the Annette Keller - man Cup will be held.
Auckland has selected a strong water polo team, which has a good chance of breaking Canterbury’s long run of successes.
