TWO AUCKLANDERS

SELECTIONS FOR SECOND CRICKET TEST GILLESPIE MISSES A PLACE Press Association WELLINGTON, Friday. The following team has been selected to represent New Zealand in the second test match against the M.C.C. team, which will be commenced at Wellington next Friday: T. C. Lowry, captain (Wellington). M. L. Page (Canterbury). W. E. Merritt (Canterbury). K. C. James (Wellington). C. S. Dempster (Wellington). G. R. Dickinson (Otago). R. C. Blunt (Otago). G. L. Weir (Auckland). E. A. McLeod (Wellington). .T, Mills (Auckland). F- T. Badcock (Wellington). In this team, there are three changes from the side which fared so badly against the M.C.C. at Christchurch. H. Foley (Wellington), A. W. Roberts (Canterbury) and M. Henderson' (Wellington), have been replaced by J. E. Mills (Auckland), G. L. Weir (Auckland), and E. McLeod (Wellington ). Mills, however, was chosen for the first test, but Foley got his place when tho Aucklander notified that he was unable to travel to Christchurch. As a left-hand opening batsman, Mills should strengthen the side, especially as he has been in fine form lately. McLeod did so well against the M.C.C. at Wellington that the selection of the ex-Aucklander will not occasion much surprise. G. L. Weir’s century against Canterbury, taken in conjunction with his batting record last season, made him a strong candidate for selection, and he is to be congratulated on gaining his first New Zealand cap. The omission of H. D. Gillespie is bound to cause considerable comment among Auckland cricketers and followers of the game. His great innings against Canterbury and his fine fielding entitled him to strong consideration. In fielding especially. New Zealand was weak in the first test.
