NEW BRITISH CRUISER
REPORTED ATTACHMENT TO N.Z. DIVISION TRIALS ON TYNE British Official Wireless RUGBY, Thursday. The British cruiser York, which was launched by the Duchess of York IS months ago, left the Tyne today for extensive trials. She is of the B type cruiser having a displacement of 8,400 tons and carrying six S-incli guns. The cruiser York was begun in May, 1927, and completed in December, 1929. The vessel is 575 ft long overall, has a beam of 57ft, and a draught of 3 7ft. In addition to six 8-incli guns she carries four 4-inch, four 3-pounders and two 2-pounders, also six 21-inch torpedo tubes. The York and her sister ship Exeter will probably be attached to the New Zealand division.
