FINDING CRITICISED
WRECK OF MANUKA SEA CAPTAINS’ OPINION Press Association WELINGTON, Thursday. The finding of the Nautical Court of Inquiry into the wreck of the steamer Manuka, was discussed at considerable length by the committee of management of the Merchant Service Guild this morning. Special consideration was given to clause 3 of the finding, and the following resolution was carried; “That this committee, after careful consideration of the finding arrived at by the Court, is of opinion that the wreck of the Manuka was caused wholly by an abnormal easterly set. and, further, if the Court was unable to determinei on the evidence before it why the ship was six miles south ot her apparent position, then we are at a loss to know why it returned a verdict of negligence against the master. The master of the Manuka, Captain Ross Clark, has resigned from the Union Steam Ship Company’s service. He will leave Wellington on Monday for his home.
