HOCKEY DRESS
The Bus Conductor Was Shocked BUT POLICE CHIEF APPROVED The costumes of a Middlesborough women’s hockey team shocked a 17-year-old bus conductor recently (says the English representative of the
“Sydney News”). The women boarded his bus wearing ;he regulation gym. tunics, black stockings and kneelength skirts. “Pull your coats over your knees, or I’ll turn you off. It’s indecent!” ordered the conductor. “I’ve seen little girls with short skirts, but it’s wrong for grown-up women!” A heated exchange of arguments between the hockey team and the conductor then ensued to the amusement of the other passengers. When questioned on the matter, the Middlesborough chief of police said he might draw the line at bathing costumes in public vehicles, but lie approved the hockey tunic.
