SUSPENDED CYCLISTS
TO APPEAR AT PAPATOETOE SPORTS TOMORROW DECISION OF CLUB In view of the recent decision of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association to suspend the members of the Manukau Cycling Club who competed at the Western Springs Stadium on December 30, a Sun representative interviewed Mr. W. J. Hindman, president of the Papatoetoe Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club, which is holding a sports carnival on Saturday afternoon, where seven cycling events are to be decided, the principal competitors in which are members of the affected clubs. When asked whether these -events would be held in view of the council’s decision, Mr. Hindman said that his club had received no official notification of the decision, and it was their intention to carry on the programme as arranged. He said this was the club’s first year, and it had advertised that these cyclists would appear, and it intended to keep faith with the public. In conclusion, he said that any rumours in circulation that the cyclists would not appear, were contrary to fact. The public would see the leading riders of New Zealand in action at Papatoetoe on Saturday.
