KARTIGI FOR AUCKLAND.—The local office of the Union Company has been advised that the steamer Kartigi, which left Launceston last Tuesday, deal's Melbourne tomorrow for Westport where she loads for Auckland. TOFUA RETURNING.—CabIe advice' received by the local office of the Union Company states that the Island passenger steamer Tofua left Suva at 12.30 p.m. yesterday for Auckland, where she is due next Monday. CANADIAN CONQUEROR SAILING.— The Canadian Conqueror, which arrived at Auckland last evening from’ Southern ports, and berthed at the King’s Wharf, is expected to leave here this afternoon at 5 o’clock for New York, Boston and Halifax, via Panama. AO RANG! AT SUVA.—Cable advice states that the Union Company’s R.M.M.S. Aorangi, en ro.ute from Sydney and Auckland, arrived at Suva at 9 o’clock this morning, and leaves again at 3 o’clock this afternoon for Honolulu Victoria and Vancouver. CANADIAN HIGHLANDER UNDOCKS.—The Canadian Highlander is to undock this afternoon, and will then leave Auckland for Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru and Bunedin, to complete her discharge of Canadian cargo. GUNNERY PRACTICE IN GULF.— The sloops Laburnum and Veronica left Auckland this morning for the Hauraki Gulf and will carry out gunnery practice next Wednesday evening and Thursday afternoon. They will return to port tomorrow week. COPTIC DUE.—Although no advice has been received by A. S. Paterson and Company. the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s motor-ship Coptic is expected at Auckland next Monday from London, via Suva. The vessel is bringing general cargo for discharge at Auckland, Port Chalmers and Wellington. SURREY IN PORT.—The Federal steamer Surrey arrived at Auckland this morning from Waikokopu, and berthed at tne Queen s Wharf to complete her load.the agency of the New Zealand Shipping Company. She is to be dispatched from this port finally next Tuesday afternoon for New York, Halifax and London, via Panama. STEAMERS FOR HOME.—The C. and D. Line’s steamer Port Campbell left Wellington last evening for London, via Panama, and the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s steamer Mahia left Lyttelton for the same port yesterday afternoon. NIAGARA FOR SYDNEY.—Bue at Auckland on Monday, January 27, from Vancouver and way ports, the Union Company advises that the liner will leave here again at 5 p.m. the next day for Sydney. PORT DARWIN TO COMPLETE.—The C. and B. Line advises that the steamer Port Darwin, now loading at Wellington, leaves there this afternoon for Lyttelton, where she completes her loading and finally departs next Wednesday for London, via Panama. PORT DUNEDIN’S ITI N E RA RY—Now completing her discharge of Australian hardwoods at Picton, the C. and B. Line’s motor-ship Port Bunedin commences loading there and later fills up at Port Chalmers, AVellington and Auckland. She is due here about January 31 and is scheduled to clear this port finally on February 5 for Halifax and London, via Panama. The Farmers’ Co-op. Auctioneering Company will act as the local agents. . ROTORUA’S PASSENGERS.—FoIIowjng is an advance list of passengers booked by the New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Rotorua, which is due at Auckland on January 26 from London and Southampton:—First saloon: Dr. and Mrs. D. JAPANESE SEAMEN’S WAGES. ese seamen, to the number of about 3,000, who are employed in Japanese vessels, have renewed their attempt which was unsuccessful when it was made three years 'ago, to secure equal treatment with Japanese crews as regards pay and conditions. The disparity in the wages paid to the Chinese in Japanese vessels, as compared with the remuneration to the Japanese members of the crew is marked. An oilfeeder and a helmsman’s assistant is paid 57 yen (£o 14s) a month if he is a Japanese, and only 35 yen (£3 10s) a month if a Chinese. A Japanese ordinary seaman receives 40 yen (£2) a month while a Chinese ordinary seaman receives 2 4 yen or £1 7s. The ven is reckoned at 10 yen to the £ 1 in the foregoing statement of exchange values. TEMOANA ROCK BUOY—A “Gazette* notice states that the lighted buoy oft Temoana Rock, Poverty Bay, will be temporarily withdrawn for overhaul on February 4. During its absence an nxfl, lighted black buoy will take its place. Further notice -will not be issued. SINNINGTON COURT WITH SLAQ.-, According to advice received by the local office of the New Zealand Shipping Company, the steamer Sinnington Court left Antwerp last Saturday with a full cargo of basic slag for discharge at Auckland. She is expected to arrive here early in March. PORT SYDNEY LOADS FOR DUN. KIRK.—The C. and D. Line advises that a slight alteration has been made in the loading of the motor-ship Port Svdney. Besides London, the vessel now loads for Dunkirk. She arrive! at Napier yesterday from Gisborne and leaves again next Tuesday for Wellington, thence Waikokopu and Napier t& fill up. She is expected to clear Napier finally on January 31 for Dunkirk and London, via Panama.
