CIVIC
NEW PROGRAMME TOMORROW The current programme at the Civic Theatre will be presented for the last time this evening. This includes the musical selections by Ted Henkel’s orchestra, and by Fred Scholl at the Civic grand organ; the stage presentation with dancing entitled “La Fiesta,” and the amusing talkie comedy, “The Fall of Eve.” An entirely new programme, which embraces new musical and stage numbers, as well as new pictures, will be presented at the Civic from tomorrow. The chief film will be another amusing comedy, a talkie, starring the wellknown actor, Reginald Denny, entitled “Embarrassing Moments.” The story opens when Marian Fuller .returns to her Fullervale home after studying art in New York. She finds that her aunt, Prudence; her fiance, Jasper Hickson; and his mother view her suspiciously, fearing that life in the big city has affected her. Marian, wearying of her fiance’s attitude, tells her family that she has engaged in a “trial marriage” in New York. Her father, Adam Fuller, demands that she name the man. In desperation, Marian gives the name of Thaddeus Cruickshank, whom she remembers as the author of a book. Her father wires Thaddeus, demanding that he come to Fullervale and face the music. The amazed Thaddeus, thinking that an impostor has been using his name, obeys the summons. Thaddeus finds Marian much to his liking, and is not at all disturbed when Adam Fuller insists upon an immediate marriage. Various complications ensue when the family endeavour to keep Thaddeus and Marian apart until after the ceremony, with Marian making desperate efforts to explain the situation to Thaddeus. Marian, with feminine wilfulness, declines to marry Thaddeus, who thereupon compromises her to such an extent that she consents to the ceremony, much to her liking. The remaining items will be another gorgeously dressed stage presentation, with solo dancing, and dances by the Civic Ballet, new musical selections by Ted Henkel's orchestra of 30 players and by the stage band, and new features on the Civic grand organ. Details of day sessions, booking arrangements, and the winter garden are advertised.
