N.Z. MAORI COUNCIL

PROPOSAL BY NGAPUHIS An all-New Zealand Maori organisation is a proposal now advanced by the Ngapuhi (North Auckland) Welfare League for consideration by native societies throughout the Dominion. This suggestion, with a plan to have headquarters for such an organisation definitely established, has come before the Akarana Maori Association, which intends to give full consideration to the idea. At the moment, the North Island has several Maori societies, such as the Young Maori Party, the Arawa Development League, the Maniapoto District Council, the Tai-Hauauru League and the Pukekohe Maori Committee, but cooperation has been handicapped. The statement on behalf of the new idea claims that tribal differences would be submerged in an organisation which would watch the interests of all branches of the Maori race.
