EARLY MORNING FIRE
OCCUPANTS AWAKENED BY FLAMES OUTBREAK AT REMUERA Considerable damage was. done to the rear portion of a six-roomed house in 41 Waiatarua Road, Kemuera, when a fire broke out at about 1.40 this morning. The outbreak, the cause of which is unknown, is believed to have originated in the kitchen. Mr. J. Crossly and his family, who were the occupants of the house, were awakened by a smell of burning. They found the kitchen a mass of flames. A hurried exit was made, and the alarm immediately given. The building was burning fiercely by the time the Remuera Brigade arrived, but good work on the part of the brigadesmen quickly brought the conflagration under control. The three back rooms were found to have been badly damaged. The house was insured for £1,200 in the Insurance Office of Australia, Limited, and the contents in the Guardian Assurance Company, Limited, for £SOO.
