AS THOUGH IN PROTEST AT HER IGNOMINIOUS END, the old wooden steamer Chelmsford has poked her bows above the level of the mud at the Western reclamation, Auckland. Built in 1886, the vessel was sunk on the site of the reclamation some months ago. Her timbers are still in an excellent state of preservation.
