SLIGHT DECREASE

RAILWAY BOOKINGS FOR RUSH PERIOD RETURNS COMPILED A slight decrease in the number of passengers and the revenue dealt with at the railway station and the Queen Street booking office is shown in a comparison between the Auckland railway traffic figures for this year and last year. The drop is largely compensated for by the business at the two new branches, which were opened during the year, in Symonds Street and Karangahape Road. The period of issue of holiday excursion tickets extended for a. week longer this year, lasting from December 13 to January 11, as compared with from December 14 to January 5 12 months previously. Comparative statistics have been compiled for both periods, and while the figures at the station are lower, this has not meant any decrease of work for the staff, but rather the reverse, on account of the large amount of telephone work occasioned by the branch booking offices. The figures are given to the nearest £. The following table shows the comparative figures at the railway station and at the Queen Street office last holiday season and this one: Railway Station
