THEFT OF METAL
THREE MEN ARRESTED ON SUSPICION FOUNDRY BROKEN INTO Suspected of having had a hand in the theft of engineer’s metal valued at £BO from Masefield and Company, engineers, Chapel Square, during the week-end, Rudolph Allan appeared at. the Police Court this morning and was remanded. Allan, a dealer, aged 54, was charged with breaking and entering a warehouse in Chapel Square on Saturday and stealing metal valued at £BO, the property of Thomas Valentine Masefield. Applying for a remand until January 23, Chief-Detec-tive Hammond said the police would then be ready to proceed with the case. Two other men had been arrested. Allan was arrested early yesterday afternoon by Detective-Sergeant Martin and most of the stolen material is understood to have been recovered. Entry to the foundry was probably gained through a window, the frame of which was found to be broken. Tbe thieves were most discriminating in the choice of material and the bulk of the metal taken was gunmetal, the most valuable material on the premises. It was apparently passed through a door at the rear of the building and carted away.
