SCHOOL CONSOLIDATION
DEPARTMENT REJECTS PROPOSAL Because the proposed consolidation of the Waimate North, Pakaraka and Ohaewai School involved conveyance of children from within the area served by native schools, the department advised the Education Board today that it declined to sanction the scheme. The board decided to renew its application and to emphasise that the department had already adopted the same principle at Rangiahua. An inquiry is to be made from the Grammar School Board whether its Symonds Street school will be available for adaptation as a primary school in connection with the proposal to make the Wellesley Street Normal School building and playground available for technical school purposes. Mr. H. S. W. King said he understood that the Grammar School Board was prepared to make the transfer provided it received a site of equal value.
