PRICES STEADY WESTFIELD STOCK SALE WESTFIELD, 2.30 p.m. An increased offering of beef came forward to the Westfield fat stock sale this morning to meet with a firm sale at late rates. Best ox made to 43s a hundred; best young cow and heifer to 395. An entry of 291 head of steers was drawn from over a comparatively wide range; the quality was well up to the average of late sales, medium weight steers predominating. Top price in the sale was secured for a line of medium to heavy prime steers sold on aecount of Alex. Orr, Wiri, which made up to £l7 fox* a pen sold to T. Baster, Ponsonby. A line of 14 exceptionally wellfinished steers on account B. Reed, Waerenga, averaged £l6 3s 4d. One truck of medium to heavy prime steers on account C. E. Sampson, Waerenga, made from £l3 15s to £ls 17s 6d, and averaged £l4 19s 9d. Twenty-four medium to heavy prime steers on account Alma Baker, Te Karaka, made from £l3 10s to £ls ss. Seventeen choice prime mediumframed steers on account W. C. Ring, Hinuera, averaged £ls 9s Id. One truck of medium to heavy prime steers on account W. H. Kelland, Waipipi, made from £l4 7s 6d to £l6 7s 6d. A line of 30 light to heavy prime steers on account Death Bros., Manurewa, made from £l2 17s 6d to £l4 17s 6d. One truck of well-finished mediumweight steers on account Mrs. A. M. Prentice, Taniwha, average £l4 6s lOd. The entry of cows and heifers, comprising 365 head, was made up- of slightly better quality than at late sales. More station cattle came forward. Bidding waS steady throughout and prices held at late rates. Heavy prime young cows and heifers made up to £l2 10s. An average yarding of calves showed little of exceptional quality. Prices held at late rates. Runners made up to £8 12s 6d: extra choice vealers made to £3 ss. The market for c:\lves weakened appreciably as the sale progressed, closing with prices well under last week’s firm rates. A lino of extra choice, heavy prime Shorthorn cows, on account Jas. Taylor, Cambridge, made up to £l2 12s Od.
