Thrills on the Cinders

BLANDFORD PARK SPEEDWAY New Lap Record Established Excellent broadsiding was seen at Blandford Park Stadium last evening when three races, in addition to other track events, were held. The racing was spectacular and kept the spectators, numbering about 4.000, at a eon stant pitch of excitement. The lap record of 19 seconds was reduced by Cyril Walker.

The main event on the programme, the j ßig Twelve Handicap, saw good riding, but the best racing of the night was in the Big Six shipIn the first heat of this event Coulthard crashed, leaving Walker and Bull to fight it out. The pair went into several long broadsides. from which only clever riding brought them out safely. In the second heat Goldberg and Lemon fought a hard duel over the last three laps. but. after he had recovered from a spectacular sideslip, Lemon’s chain broke and he left the track and fell. Goldberg and Walker rode another fine race in the final. The lap record of 19sec established by Goldberg at the previous meeting was lowered by both Walker and Coulthard, the former taking 18 2-5 sec, and the latter 18 4-ssec. In an attempt to regain the record Goldberg lapped in 18 3-ssec, only a fifth of a second outside Walker’s time. Challenge races between Peek and Bull, and Goldberg and Lemon, were to have been staged, but owing to machines being damaged the events were cancelled, Goldberg and Coulthard riding a race instead. At the end of the third lap Coulthard experienced trouble and pulled up, the race going to Goldberg. Great improvement was shown by some of the riders. Cuthbertson and Richards rode well, and two newcomers, Yates and Taylor, proved surprise-packets, and gave promise of developing into skilled performers. Curtis was another of whom more should soon be heard. Lemon was unlucky. He broke a footrest after crashing, and although he rode in another race be did not complete the programme. Coulthard, Goldberg, Walker and Bull all rode up to form. The events were staged without delay and the meeting concluded up to scheduled time.
