RICHMOND REGATTA IN LIGHT AIRS PICTURESQUE HARBOUR SCENE Tantalising changes of wind marked the Richmond Cruising Club's annual regatta on Saturday. There was hardly any breeze for the start of most events, and although the wind freshened from the north until 4.30. it fell away to a fiat calm for 40 minutes and spoiled the racing for many of the competitors. A strong ebb tide and lack of breeze forced a number of boats to retire. The racing was started and finished between Mr. J. Donald's launch Marion D and the Ponsonby Wharf. Good fields of starters lined up in classes from It to Y. In addition to the ordinary events, sweepstake races were held in all classes except TI for non-club boats. The officials were:—Starter, Mr. I. Dennis; judge, Mr. .J. Longbottom: timekeepers, Messrs. Dennis and W. Bailey; recorder, Mr. G. E. Laycock. -Results are as follow: H. and I. Classes. —The starters were Why Not, Starlight, Spray, Omatere and Starloch. Finishing times were:—Starlight. 6.41.22; SAtrloch, 6.45.2; Spray, 6.48.57; Why Not did not finish. Result: Starlight. 1; Starloch, 2; Spray, 3. L and N Classes.—The following boats started:—Rakoa, Valeria, Matariki, Otira, Mowai and Malua. Finishing times were:—Rakoa, 6.45.34; Otira. 6.49.53; Valeria, 6.50.40; Mowai, 6.56.-42; Malua, G. 58.17; Matariki did not finish. Regatta result: Otira. 1; Mowai, 2; Valeria, 3. Other boats and crews were:—Tio, Powers and Steadman: Delphine, Catter and Bell-Booth; Oi, Thompson anci was first away to a good start, followed by Me Too Tio and Ot. Delpliine stood across the hay al m the other three boats worked the iNortli cote shore, and when the boats crossed tacks Delphine was last. All stood foi the buoy at the clubhouse. The leaders picked up a nice breeze, but Delphine missed, it. Me Too was A l '® l round the buoy, and was closely followed bv Tio and Oi. When Me Too reached the buoy Delphine was a quarter of a mile behind. A change of wind gave Delphine a chance, and setting her spinnaker for the run up to the buoy at the head of the bay she almost caught the leaders. Oi had trouble with her spinnaker and lost time. Rounding the top mark the order was: —Tio, Me Too, Delphine. Oi. Me Too passed Tio on the leg to the finish. Finishing times were:—Me Too. "5.57.15; Tio, 5.57.22; Delphine, 5.57.30; Oi, 6.0.10. RACE FOR Z CLASS From a good start all boats crossed the line within 50 seconds. Delphine was first away, closely followed by Tio. then came Oi, Me Too, Trevic and lolantlie. Delphine maintained her lead and was first round the Northcote mark, followed by the others in close order. Finishing times were; —Delphine, 3.49.28; Tio, 3.50.14; Me Too, 3.50.21: Trevic. 3.51.37; Oi, 3.55.35; lolanthe, 3.56.16. Result: —Trevic, 1; Tio> - > Me Too,
