OUTBOARD ACCIDENTS
ONLY MINOR DAMAGE DONE Two accidents occurred at the outboard races at the Panmure Basin oil Saturday afternoon, one boat capsizing and sinking and the other catching on fire. Ocean Mule, owned by Mr. S. Ford, of Ellerslie, was being driven in one race by Mr. R.^ Perry, also of Ellerslie, and it was close behind another boat when it appeared to get caught in the wash. It capsized and sank and could not be salvaged until low tide. Mr. Perry was uninjured and apart from the water in the engine the boat was not damaged. In the same race Miss Arawa, owned and driven by Mr. A. R. Townsend, of Epsom, kept on its course after the previous accident, but caught fire. The accident was caused by the high tension wire coming in contact with the benzine tank. Mr. Townsend beat out the flames with a cushion. He was slightly burned about the hands and legs. The paintwork of the boat was scorched and the engine damaged. •
