ROXY
“THE WAGON MASTER” Ken Maynard, whose first talking film, “The Wagon Master," is now at the Roxy Theatre, entered motion pictures by way of a circus. His riding attracted the attention of a director who persuaded him to enter films. Maynard is seen at his best in “The Wagon Master." “The "Wagon Master" is a tale of the bold and hardy wagon freighters who hauled supplies to isolated mining camps in the old days of the West. Several enjoyable short talkie items are also presented on the same programme. On Wednesday a big double-feature talkie programme will be presented at both the Roxy Theatre and Crystal Palace Theatre, Mount Eden. The first attraction will be “Mother’s Boy," a talking and singing production with the Broadway singer, Morton Downey, in the leading role. The story is said to be reminiscent of the famous “Jazz Singer." Beryl Mercer, remembered for her work as the mother in “Three Live Ghosts," appears with Downey. The second attraction is “Square Shoulders," a story of life at a boys’ school, with the little boy, Junior Coghlan, as the star, and Louis Wolheim as his father.
