AERIAL ACROBATICS
COMPETITION FOR AUCKLAND PILOTS DISPLAY AT MANGERE The Auckland Aero Club will hold the first of a series o£ interesting airplane acrobatic- competitions at the Mangere Airdrome on Saturday, January IS, when trained pilots will vie with each other for the honours. The first competition for which a trophy has been donated, will be in the form of a landing test. The usual method is foj* the pilot to land, without using his engine, from an altitude of I,oooft, and to bring his machine to a stop as near as possible to the centre of a marked circle. Later competitions will include figures-of-eight, spins, loops, rolls, stall turns and other aerial exercises, which enable the pilot to gain the confidence in himself and his machine which is necessary for successful flying. The pilots who intend competing have spent considerable time practising, and some interesting contests should result.
