BIG BERTHA S DOUBLE
__._.— 0 O - Wms Hack and Sprint Events Adverse Conditions for Thames Meeting Spccial to THE SUN THAMES, Today. FINE weather prevailed for the opening of the' second day's racing of the Thames Racing _Club’s meeting at Parawai taday, but subsequent to the third race heavy rain set in and continued with short intermissions throughout the day. The attendance was large and the course holding. The opening race was again disastrous for the majority of punters, a genuine surprise being provided by the dividend payers, Princess Snow and Glenison, the former giving a return of a third of a century. 'l‘aumai made no race of the County High-\Veight and a, long way from home the result never appeared in‘doubt. Mashoor just beat War Officer for second place, but on returning to scale failed to draw the correct weight and War Ofiicer was placed second and Foxhound third. Taneriri notched his third win on end when he beat ~ Sir Russell and High Pitch in the Thames Plate Handicap, . for on the opening day he won the Cup, and just previously had scored in the Goodwood Handicap on the last day of the recent Ellerslie meeting. ‘ E. A. Kecsing rode Snow Prince 8:}lb over weight in the Hikutaia Handicap, but that did not prevent the Paeroa representative from scoring a very easy win from outsiders in Orchus and Quinsilia. Following on her success in the hack event, the Hikutaia Handicap, Big Bertha made another appearance, in the President’s Handicap, and she recorded a meritorious victory over Patel-e and Billikins. She was at a good figure in this - one-dividend field. The favourite, Envoy, was a rank failure in the going. .
