The record price of £55,000 for the screen rights alone was paid by Carl Uemrnle, junr.. for “Broadway,” the sensation of the New York stage, y hich will be seen at the Civic Theatre shortly, with Glenn Tryon, Evelyn Erent and Merna Kennedy In the principal roles. To the action of the play itself the young producer added the lavish Paradise Night Club, a full i evue. and street exteriors. which made the cost of the completed photoplay £300,000. Thomas Jackson. Otis Harlan, Robert Ellis, Paul Porcasi and many other notable players are seen in support of the featured players. One of the jurors in the trial of "Lulu Marks” on a murder charge in "The Drake Case," Universal aili alking sensation, fell asleep under the soothing glare of the incandescent lamps and the absolute silence of the sound stage during the filming of a scene.
