ST. JAMES

“GOLD DIGGERS OF BROADWAY” Hailed as the greatest production of the season, “Gold Diggers of Broadway,” a spectacular all-talking and colour Vitaphone picture, continues to draw crowded houses at the St. James Theatre. The film has a loosely-knit plot dealing with the “gold digging” activities of .four girls of the Broadway stage. -The romantic interest is supplied by the charming love affair of Violet, a beautiful show girl, and Wally Saunders, heir to a huge fortune. The production has been liberally interspersed with new and attractive song and dance numbers, while elaborate stage settings have been employed. A full chorus of 100 girls is engaged and is seen in several enchanting presentations. Included in the strong cast are Winnie Lightner, Nancy Welford, Lilyan Tashman, William Bake well and Helen Foster. The features which are shown in support include the overture from “Orpheus,” items by Van and Schenck, “Realisation,” an amusing comedydrama, and a pleasing dance by the I Vitaphone Girls entitled “Serpentine.”
