CIVIC
BRILLIANT NEW PROGRAMME Something exceptional in entertainment is promised at the Civic THeatre this evening when the third of the successful Unit Entertainments will be presented to Auckland theatregoers. The new programme will be opened with excerpts from the beautiful opera “Rigoletto” (Verdi), played by Ted Henkel’s orchestra of 30 players. Then Fred Scholl will play selections on the grand organ, including “Dream Memory,” and “Automobillous,” a new and amusing novelty number. . The stage band entertainment will be entitled “La Fiesta,” and will feature a number of Spanish dances. The Civic ballet will dance the "Dance of the Shawl,” and Ramon and Madeline will introduce the "Gaucho Tango.” Other items will be .the selection _ “La Paloma,” by the stage band, a miniature tango dance by two tiny tots, Patricia and Kanui, and the dance “Acrobatic Bolero," by Pedro and Edna. . . _ . .' . , , Then comes the chief pictorial attraction, a talkie entitled “The Fall of Eve," and starring such well-known players as Gertrude Astor, Patsy Ruth Miller, Ford Sterling, Arthur Rankin and Jed Prouty. This is the first attempt to make a farce-comedy into a talking picture and it is highly successful, for the complicated situations, so familiar in the silent farce comedies, cause even more laughter in this picture, because the laugh-provoking situations are helped by the talk of the characters. One may fearlessly say, in fact, that it is unlikely that it could have created more laughter if it were produced on the St Jhe whole programme should prove a musical and cinematic delight. John Blystone’s monumental picture “The Sky Hawk," will boast of one of the finest and most stupendous sets ever made for a motion picture. It is for the scene of the Zeppelin air raid on London, and contains an authentic reproduction of such typical British vistas as Piccadilly Circus, Hyde Park, Soho, Leicester Square and other spots. There will also be the fog, although it will not be guaranteed as of first-class London quality. Albert Rockett, who recently became affiliated with Fox Movietone as an associate producer, is in New York. Mr. Rockett will view all the shows of the Mew York stage and return to Hollywood. His first production will be ' : Such Men Are Dangerous,” the Elinor Glyn story which features Warner Baxter and Mary. Duncan.
