SPORTS POSTPONEMENTS
MANY GAMES AFFECTED TODAY CRICKET AND TENNIS Another wet Saturday afternoon at Auckland today caused many of the sports fixtures to be abandoned or postponed. After yesterday’s rain, and further showers this morning, cricket wickets throughout the city and suburbs were unfit for play. The Auckland Cricket Association’s seventh matches in the first round of the senior A grade were to have been commenced, but play for the day had to be called off by the umpires, under Rule 53 of the rules of the association. The weather affected all matches at Eden Park and North Shore. Similarly with the Auckland City and Suburban Cricket Association, wickets were declared unfit for play at tho Domain, where the senior grade competition was to have been continued. Matches in the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association’s grade competitions also had to be called off.
