Suburban Cricket
WILL FOURTH SERIES CONCLUDE ? Green Lane in Good Position RAIN again threatens to prevent the conclusion of the fourth series of games of the Suburban Cricket Association’s competitions on the Domain tomorrow. The matches were started three weeks ago, but intervention of Christmas- holidays and rain last Saturday has left them still unfinished.
Even with fine weather tomorrow, the wickets, though no doubt benefited by the spell, will probably be on the soft side as a result of today’s downpour. Interest will centre largely in the fight for the championship leadership, between Green Lane and Ellerslie, who are level on points. Green Lane is 74 .runs ahead of its opponents on the first innings, and has still two wickets to fall, and it is possible, if the tail-enders make a stand, Ellerslie will be faced with a hopelfess task during tomorrow’s four and a-half hours’ play. Last season’s champions, Plarbour Board, have batted themselves into a sound position to secure at least a two-point win over W.Y.M.I. The institute team, however, has a fighting chance of forcing a draw if the opening batsmen can hold out long enough. Albion’s prospects of winning, or at least drawing with Ponsonby, are distinctly promising. The Ponies’ batting failed badly in the first innings, and Albion has opened brightly with Gedye and Viscoe going well at the crease. Teams are as under: Senior A Grade W.Y.M.I. —A.
