MISSING LICENCE FEES
BOROUGH COUNCIL , INSPECTOR ARRESTED OTHER CHARGES PENDING From Our Own Correspondent HAMILTON, Today. An assistant inspector employed by the Hamilton Borough Council, Archibald Gardner, appeared before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., in the Police Court today, charged with receiving from A. Lamberton £1 for a licence fee and fraudulently omitting to account for it, thereby committing theft. In asking for a remand until Wednesday, Detective-Sergeant Thompson said the accused was arrested last night following an audit of the borough council’s books. There were a, number of other charges pending, involving about £29. Mr. A. E. Webb, on behalf of ac cused, said his client would give every assistance to the auditor and the police. The remand was granted, bail being allowed in one surety of £SO.
