EXTENSIONS TO MILNE AND CHOYCE’S BIG FACTORY BUILDING An imposing addition to the City s skyline will be the sevenstoreyed factory building to be erected on an extension of the promises of Milne and Choycc, Ltd., at an estimated cost of £26,000.
j Towering-to the height of 102 ft., the limit of City structures, the new wing "ill link up with the present building ami conform to its alignment. Situated to the right rear of the Queen ; Street house, the new factory will front on to Mills Lane, and is being built on a property the firm acquired : from the Bank of New Zealand, to- : ward the end of last year.
The building, which is primarily intended lo accommodate under one roof the firm's clothing and millinery factories, which are now scattered. It Will be 40ft long and 30ft wide, and will be of ferro-concrete construction throughout. The six top floors will he used for factory premises, while the ground floor will be linked with the Queen Street building for extension of departments, and entrance will be from the main thoroughfare, 'the factory ingress will be from Mills’ Lane. The excavation of the site lias already been commenced by the contractors, the Fletcher Construction Company. Limited, and it is considered that tlie building will take the best part of a year to complete. The work is expected to occupy 40 men during that time.
