“MAID OF THE MOUNTAINS”

REVIVAL BY J.C.W. COMPANY The popular musical play, “Lilac Time.” staged by the J.C.W. Company, ran its course before an enthusiastic audience at His Majesty’s Theatre last evening. The phenomenally successful “Maid of the Mountains,” which has not been seen in Auckland for five years, will be revived by the brilliant musical comedy combination this evening. Playgoers will remember Gladys Moncrieff’s success in the role of Teresa, Maid of the Mountains; tonight, Miss Lilian Crisp, who has achieved notable popularity here, will be seen in the name role, and her rich soprano voice should be heard at its best in the many haunting musical numbers allotted to her. Her acting is said to reach fine dramatic heights Much interest will attach to the appearance of Mr. John Ralston as Baldasarre, the brigand chief, which Mr. Claude Fleming played the last time the production was seen here. A singer and actor of outstanding ability, Mr. Ralston should handle the role with conspicuous success. Mr. Bon Nicol will have better opportunities in the part of Tonio for his undoubted talent for creating humour, and he will be assisted by the charming young comedienne, Miss Edna Ralston. Mr. Edward Butterworth created a good impression in Australia in the character of Beppo, to which is attached some of the play’s best musical numbers. Bick Shortland, John Byrne, Laurel Streeter, Hilton Porter, Effie Armstrong and Ivan Squirrel are others who have leading parts. A feature of the production will be a specialty dance by Miss Patricia and Mr. Terry Kendall. The play will be presented tomorrow afternoon and evening and on Monday night. On Tuesday and Wednesday nights and on Wednesdav afternoon the company will play “The Student Prince.
