EIGHTS FAVOURITE
XTORSES carrying number eight saddle cloth had a great “trot” at Thames yesterday, no less than four winning, there being two races where no number eight was included among the runners. Vital gave the “eights” a good start in the opening event, paying over a score, and Mashoor in the next was the outsider of the field. He won. Big Bertha, at good odds, finished second, and Taneriri, in the Cup, was the next to oblige. Master Latour was a failure, the only one, and then Envoy and Brampton, both sporting the magic numeral, led their fields home. Four firsts and one second in six outings, with dividends totalling £4l 11s 6d, brought joy to the wise backers who followed the “eights.”
