ACCEPTANCES AND PROSPECTS

The eight events on the programme for the concluding day's racing tomorrow of the Thames Jockey Club have filled well, and another interesting day's sport is in prospect. The acceptances closed last night, and considering the shortage of runners yesterday, the response can be considered very satisfactory. “Early Bird’s” review for tomorrow’s events is given below: The course was rathe.r hard yesterday. and a copious rainfall today would not come amiss. One or two horses were found out yesterday by the hard going, despite the fine sole of grass on the track. Tomorrow a start is to be made with the Kopu Handicap This is practically the game field that lined up for yesterday’s opening event. Tuku got into all the trouble imaginable in that event, and, better handled on this occasion, he should win. Valcuir ran surprisingly well to get second, but Measurer is capable of improving. Dainty Manners ran well without being dangerous, and so did the bracketed pair, Glenison and Miss Albyn. Norval Tea does not stay, and St. Warrigal is a likely improver. Valour may do better, as

should Searcher. Trig , missed the jump-out yesterday, and was not sighted. He looked nice, and should do better. Little Gift, Tlowick, and Section may be the pick of the others. Favourites may be TRIG VALCUIR GLENISON - MISS ALBYN Bracket. County High-weight There is a little new blood to make matters interesting. Mashoor won at the right end yesterday, but he was a bit lucky to beat War Officer, who

was asked to do too much over the last half-mile. Master Roley is very fit, and Grand Tea ran well enough among the hacks yesterday to show that he is coming back to his best. Always and Taumai were disappointments, but Asmodeus might have won yesterday with an ounce of luck. Night Comet, Foxhound, and Gay Caballero are the elect of the remainder. Best backed may be WAR OFFICER ASMODEUS. MASTER ROLEY. Turua Handicap Patere ran a fair race yesterday, and so did Valstreet. Big Bertha came from the clouds to get second money, and Joy Girl will be more at home among this class than against the open sprinters. Whakama did not run at all well the first day, and Parfait Amour did not appear to have the best of luck. Vital won nicely, but this company may be 'better. On Top, the unlucky horse of yesterday, has been handicapped as if he won yesterday, whereas he should certainly have done so but for going off the course at the home turn. Welcome Boy, too, was unlucky, for he was going well when he was ca.rted off. Red Lion may be the pick of the others. Backers may decide for ON TOP. WELCOME BOY. JOY GIRL. President's Handicap Branson is fast coming into his best form, and his third yesterday was

! meritorious. He now meets Envoy on j 121 b better terms, and over the exti’a i furlong this should bring them toj gether. Billikins stands a chance, and I the field is completed by five hacks. and none of them is of any extra » promise. The three at the head of affairs promise to fight it out, with a preference for BRANSON. ENVOY. President’s Handicap If all the acceptors go to the post this should be a particularly interesting race. High Pitch raced badly in the Cup, and Maori Boy, a newcomer, is nicely treated. Taneriri has the weight now that he might have won with yesterday, so easily did he score. If his rider claims the apprentices’ allowance again he will only carry 5.4, but in any case he is going to take a lot of heading off at this distance. The bad location of the mile barrier is going to be a problem, however. Le Choucas raced well yesterday, and Sir Russell has been kept for this event, the distance of which is all in his favour. Flying Juliet is coming back to form, and had she not been made so much use of yesterday would have been closer to the winner. Good Boy is promoted, but he sticks on and will not be disgraced. White Wings does not appear to be quite ready, but Envoy is asked to carry a very light impost, considering the way he won yesterday. Envoy was able to press Maori Boy hotly over this distance at Whangarei recently, so that he will get the journey. Wenday did well on the Taranaki trip, and Archeen may not bo able to go with them early. Billikins, Cruachan and Grand Tea comprise the rest of the field. It is a' particularly open race, in which Taneriri, Sir Russell, Flying Juliet and Envoy appear to hold the best chances. The actual favourites may be (providing they are well drawn): TANERIRI SIR RUSSELL FLYING JULIET Hikutaia Handicap Most of these claim other engagements, so that the composition of the field is a matter for conjecture. Diamond Queen was unlucky yesterday, and Joy Girl, if reserved, will be a danger. Crimestor and Grand Tea, too, are likely if started. Of the others. Grand Arch and Snow Prince should do best. When the totalisator bells cease ringing it may be found that the favourites are: DIAMOND QUEEN JOY GIRL Ngatea Hack Handicap Brampton won so well yesterday, outstaying his opponents, that he must again be seriously considered. Indolent appears to have lost all form, for ha ran badly yesterday. Tuku is capable of improvement. Coll too was a bit unlucky in being hemmed in on the rails crossing the top, and was checked at one stage. Some Lady and Day Lass are the best of the others. Backers may be puzzled to sum it up between this trio: COLL DAY LASS BRAMPTON Farewell Handicap Hakanoa appeared to be troubled by the hard ground yesterday, and if the going is easier tomorrow—as it might well be—then he will add to his record for consistency. Good Boy is improving all the time, and he has a partiality for this course. Billikins would stand a chance if reserved for this, for she ran a good race over this distance yesterday after a fairly hard task in

the open sprint. Mosaic raced patchily yesterday, but he should be all the better for it. In addition, he went off the course at the home bend. Waltzer is apparently a horse of moods, but Tanagra, a good one a couple of seasons ago, ran a fine race the first day, showing a lot of pace. Glenstar has a chance on his Cup running. In a good pool with a fairly wide range the favourites may be HAKANOA GLENSTAR MOSAIC
