HAWAIIAN EXPOSITION
HISTORICAL PAGEANT PLANNED FOR l|j| COMMEMORATING CHIEFS An international exposition to u held in Honolulu in 1936, Comment ating the bicentennial and centenn ■ of the birthdays of Kamekumeha tv Great and King Kaiakaua, has suggested by Mr. Albert P. Tayio, librarian of the archives f or Territory of Hawaii. Kamehanieha 1., the “Napoleon 0 < the Pacific,” is the racial hero Hawaiian people. He was the great., Hawaiian chief and ruler of all time' having brought all of the islands to gether under one rule, lie was hoiy in 1736. King Kaiakaua was born in lS36ai,H ruled from 1574 to 1891. Known a ' the “merry monarch." he was popuhl both at home and abroad. His work tour in ISSI established him as » internationally known personage. Mr. Taylor's suggestion for an ei . position in 1936 has met with the S n. proval of Governor Lawrence M. Judd who has appointed a committee to isvestigate the proposal, it is planned to submit the suggestion to the Terri, torial Legislature when it convenes in 1931. The proposal has been taken up by the Daughters and Sons of Hawaiian Warriors and other Hawaiian organ, isat ions. The suggested project contemplates the holding of elaborate Hawaiian pageants, singing and dancing festivals, and possibly international <i ts plays and exhibits. The area along Honolulu’s waterfront adjacent to the harbour, which will probably be developed into a fine public park by 1936. has been sui gested as a site for the exposition.
