NATIVE TO PAY £ls NO DRIVING FOR 12 MONTHS From Our Otcn Corespondent PUfcEKOHE, Today. Noticing the erratic course of a car while turning the corner at Mercer last evening, a constable’s suspicions were aroused. On investigating he found Wireniu Tamai. a native, in a state of intoxication. This morning Tumai appeared in the Pukekohe Magistrate’s Court, and pleaded guilty to being intoxicated while in charge of a car, and using obscene language. Constable Ohlson told the court that if Tumai hacl not been in charge of the car he would not have been arrested for ilrun _»nness, but he was certainly not in a fit state to handle r car. The language was used when accused was engaged in an argument with one of the tradespeople. Tumai admitted having consumed six big beers at Rangiriri and having driven to Te Kauwhata and then to Mercer.
The presiding justices took a serious view of the offence and fined defendant £lO on the charge of intoxication, £5 for using obscene language, and cancelled his licence for one year.
