COLOURFUL GUARD
HAWAII’S COSMOPOLITAN FORCES The cosmopolitan personnel of Hawaii's National Guard is an important agency for the Americanisation of Citizens Of foreign ancestry. Fifty-one different races and racial mixtures are found among the 1,639 members of the guard, according to the Adjutant-General’s annual report. Native Hawaiians, of whom there are 431, predominate. There are 191 Japanese, 185 Filoppinos, 170 Chinese, 157 Porto Ricans, 14S Portuguese and 121 of American ancestry.
