Mr. and Mrs. G. T. Bell left this week in their launch Gold Bell for a cruise of the Plauraki Gulf. Their party included the Misses Nancy and June Scott, of Palmerston North, Mrs. A. and Master Lyn Christianson, Waiuku, Miss Stella Mathieson, Mr. M. J. and Master Rangi Goughian, of Waimauku, and Mr. Nixon Scott, of Ruawai.
ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED PARTY TO CELEBRATE OCCASION ONEHUNGA GATHERING Mr. and Mrs. R. Davey, of Ferndale Road, Ellerslie, late of OneHunga, held a delightful party at their residence on Tuesday evening, to celebrate the engagement of their eldest daughter, Lily Borchard, to Norman, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Church, of Victoria Street, Onehunga. Musical item's were given during the evening, interspersed with games and dancing. “Auld Lang Syne” and “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows” terminated a very enjoyable evening. Mrs. Davey, assisted by Miss Davey, received the guests. Mrs. Davey was wearing a frock of blue taffeta and diamente, and Miss Davey a turquoise blue chenille frock draped with georgette. Among those present were: Miss Emily Borchard, who wore a frock of figured blue georgette with tonings of rose; Miss Kona Gates, almond green silk; Miss Sylvia Gilbert, pleated lemon-tinted rayon; Miss Marjorie Jones, flame embossed silk; Miss Thelma Church, floral rayon; Mrs. T. Gibb, black georgette and lace; Mrs. H. Eastea, sen., cream silk and lace; Mrs. C. Andrews, black crepe de chine with scarlet trimming. ... Mrs. G. SOCIAL AND DANCE FRANKLIN BURNS CLUB HOLDS GAY ANNUAL FUNCTION ENJOYABLE PROGRAMME The annual social of the Franklin Burns Club, held at Drury, was an outstanding success. There was a record attendance of members and friends. Vocal items were contributed by Miss Helen Hogg, Messrs. Duncan Black, and T. C. Seaton; national dances by Miss Phyllis Gardiner; and musical items by Mr. William Sutherland. Dance music was played by M.r. and Mrs. Fausett, Messrs. L. Ballard, J. M. WEDDING BELLS BRIDESMAIDS IN PINK LUSTY—'VERRALL A pretty wedding took place at St. Matthew’s Church on Tuesday afternoon, when Miss Violet Pearl Verrall, second daughter of Mrs. and the late Mr. M. Verrall, of Westmere, Grey Lynn, was married to Mr. Walter Francis Lusty, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Lusty, of Penrose. The Rev. Canon Grant Cowen performed the ceremony. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Air. C. Verrall, looked charming in a frock of cream georgette and lace over pale pink satin. Her long tulle veil was beautifully, embroidered in pink and was held in place with a coronet of pink and white orange blossom. As bridesmaid, Aliss Nell Verrall, cousin of the bride, wore a. frock of pink georgette, with a flared skirt of tiers, and a coronet of tulle and silver.. She carried a bouquet to tone. The little flower girl, Betty Lusty, was prettily frocked in blue crepe de chine, with a tight-fitting bodice and frilled skirt. Her headdress was of gold leaves and tulle. The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Air. D. Lusty. A reception was held later at St. Cuthbert’s Hall, Westmere, Mrs. Verrall receiving the guests in a frock of beige romanette and lace, with a hat to tone. The bridegroom’s mother was wearing a blue figured crepe de chine frock with a liat to match. The bride and bridegroom left by car for a tour of the North Island, the bride travelling in a frock of lemon marocaine and navy silk coat, with a hat to tone. Among the guests were: Mesdames H. Verrall, W. Warren (Pukekohe), G. Bradley, A. Zeigler (Te Aroha), E. Verrall, E. Sinclair, C. Verrall, E. George (Portland), A. Maddren, Smith, H. Cole, L. After the breakfast the guests spent a very enjoyable evening at Mrs. Verrall’s residence. A SHEAF OF CHRISTMAS LILIES MURCH—ANDREWS A very pretty but quiet wedding was celebrated on Monday evening in tlie Presbyterian Church, St. Heliers Bay, the officiating clergyman being the. Rev. Air. Platt. The contracting parties were Gertrude May Andrews, eldest daughter of Airs. W. Davidson and the late R. A. Andrews, of Hamilton, and William Alurch, of Pahiatua. The bride, who was given away by her brother, looked charming in a l'rock of ivory satin and georgette. She wore a tulle veil and orange blossoms, and carried a sheaf of Christmas lilies. The bridesmaid, Miss Isabel Andrews, sister of the bride, wore pale pink crepe de chine, and a black hat trimmed with pale pink. She carried a mauve and pink posy. * The duties of best man were carried out by Air. Den Lawford. The church was beautifully decorated, the Wedding March being played by Aliss Moya Cooper Smith. After the service Miss Dorothy Youd sang “Because.” A few relatives were afterward entertained by the bride’s grandmother, Mrs. Youd, of St. Heliers. Later, the bride and bridegroom left for a tour of the North Island. They will make their home in Pahiatua.
CARNIVAL DANCE AT PIRATE SHIPPE SUCCESSFUL EVENING TRANSPORT COMPANY’S SOCIAL CLUB The Pirate Shippe at Alii ford was; a popular rendezvous on Tuesday, when the carnival dance organised by the employees of the North Shore Transport Company was held. The beautiful decorations of the “Shippe” were supplemented by balloons and other popular dance room favours, the whole making a delightful setting for the frocks of Hie guests. The latest in dance music was played by the orchestra of seven instruments under the joint control of Alessrs. AI. Thomson and Fred Bartley. TO MEND BROKEN CHINA Mix a teaspoonful of alum with a tablespoonful of water in a small stone jar, and place in a hot oven until the mixture is quite transparent. Wash the broken pieces of china in hot water, and. while warm, coat them thinly and quickly with the preparation which will stick them together instantly.
BRIDE CARRIES SHEAF OF ST. JOSEPH LILIES BELCHER—DOHERTY' A very pretty wedding was celebrated at St. Benedict’s Church on Tuesday afternoon, when Miss Isabella Doherty, elder daughter of Mrs. Doherty, of Morningside, was married to Mr. John Terence Belcher, eldest son of Mr, and Mrs. Belcher, of Upper Symonds Street. The Rev. Father Evans performed the ceremony. THE bride, who was given away by Air. Christian, wore a charming frock of white satin, the full skirt, ankle length at back, falling in graceful folds to a petalled hem. Below the fitting corsage were deep shirred panels. Her beautifully embroidered tulle veil was caught at the side with
clusters of orange blossom, and she carried a sheaf of St. Joseph lilies. The bridesmaids. Miss Iris Belcher and Aliss Reina Fort, were frocked alike in rose-pink crepe de chine, with deep fichu collars of palest pink lace. The skirts were deeply flared, and were finished with large taffeta hip bows. Picture hats of crinoline straw trimmed with velvet were worn, and they carried shower bouquets of pink blossoms to match their frocks. Air. Bernard Belcher, the bridegroom’s brother, attended as best man, Air. Alervyn Kearney acting as groomsman. A reception was held later at the Domain Kiosk, which had been delightfully arranged in shades of pastel pink and mauve, with a large pink wedding bell. Airs. Doherty, the bride’s mother, received the guests in a smart frock of french grey crepe de chine, hand-em-broidered in "tones of cornflower blue and gold, and a cornflower blue hat. A posy of sweet peas and cornflowers was carried. Airs. Belcher wore a frock of navy georgette with ecru lace trimmings, and a hat of navy ballibuntal straw and ecru lace. She carried a posy of pink carnations.
