AUSTRALIANS ANGRY
OFFICER CALLS IT “BLACK MAN’S COUNTRY” NEW ZEALAND PRAISED SYDNEY’, Tuesday. A storm of indignation bas been aroused in the Press of Australia over certain comments in an article contributed by Major H. C. Porter to the issue of the Army, Navy and Air Force Gazette, published in London on October 17. In the article referred to Australia was described as a “black man’s country.” The writer's comments were in the nature of advice to ex-service officers who were considering migration to this country. He appraised British Columbia highly and saw distinct promise for his brother officers in New Zealand. The Prime Minister, Mr. J. H. ScuJlin. has expressed resentment at Major Porter’s remarks. He says they cannot be taken seriously, however.
