HORSE MAIMED

THE racehorse Highland Mystery L owned and trained by Mr* Harry Monteith, of Waipukurtu* was the subject of a brutal and unscrupulous attack by some person or persons during last week. On entering the horse’s rtall on Thursday morning Mr. Monteith noticed that the animal was very nervous and frightened, and he then made the discovery that it had a deep cut in the neck app,i r . ently made by a knife. There was nothing in the loose-box that could have caused the injury, the contents being only bedding mater al. The police have the matter i n * hand, and it is hoped that the vandal will be brought to book. Highland Mystery was unable to fulfil his engagement on the second day of the Hawke's Bay meeting.
