NEW PLANE-CARRIER
LARGEST POST-WAR CRUISER CONVERTED FOR MEDITERRANEAN WORK British Official Wireless RUGBY, Sunday. The British Navy will have its full complement of nine aircraft-carriers in service when the Glorious is commissioned at Devonport on Tuesday. The Glorious was one of the large cruisers built while the Great War was in progress. She hap been converted into an aircraft-carrier, like her sister ships, Furious and Courageous. Paid off in 1924, the Glorious was adapted for her present purpose at Devonport. After her trials she will join the Mediterranean fleet, replacing the Courageous, which has been transferred to the Atlantic fleet to relieve the Furious, which is destined for the China station. The Glorious displaces 18,900 tons, and has 90,000 horse-power engines.
