AUDACIOUS THEFT AT DANNEVIRKE SUM OF £l6O Press Association DANNEVIRKE, Nonda> An unauthorised transfer of approximately £l6O from the Dannevirke branch of the Commercial Bank of Australia to some person at present unknown took place this morning between 10.15 and 10.20 during the temporary absence, at the rear of the building of the teller. Mr. Gimblett. gOME person entered the premise!-. situated in the main thoroughfare. opposite the post office and making most of the opportunity, walked out with a roll of single notes. The only other member of the stalf was the manager. Mr. R. Chisholm, who was in his private office at the rear of the chamber, where the public business is transacted. The money was in the teller's drawer, on the in side of a four-foot, counter, the door cf the grille being closed. The individual who made the daring theft had to open the door of the grille, reach over the counter, and abstract the notes from the drawer. - The manager, hearing a noise, came from his office to investigate. He saw nothing but a shadow on the window dividing oft the compartment where the ledgers are kept. On Mr. Gimblett’s return. Mr. Chisholm mentioned the incident. An investigation of the cash was immediately made, and the loss of a bundle of notes discovered.
