NAVY EFFICIENCY
WONDER-SHIP FOR REPAIRS AFLOAT FRESH WATER AND FUEL LONDON, Saturday. The British Navy’s most wonderful ship is the Mediterranean fleet’s new repair ship, the Resource, of 13,500 tons. She has 20 workshops, each fitted with the latest plant, also a foundry and a smithy. The principal duty of the crew will be to keep the Mediterranean warships in condition, but the vessel will also be able to supply them with water and oil. The Resource has double bottoms so constructed as to enable her to carry in them 200 tons of distilled water, 200 tons of boiler water, 100 tons of lubricating oil, and 400 tons of oil fuel. The ship carries a powerful wireless installation and a searchlight plant for illuminating any ship on which night work may be necessary. Her only armament consists of two fourinch guns on high angle mountings to enable them to be used against air craft.
